Croat Wins Grand Prix at Slavonic Bazaar in Vitebsk

Damir Kedzo from Croatia won the Grand Prix of the Vitebsk 2010 Song Contest which was held as part of the international festival of arts, Slavonic Bazaar in Vitebsk, BelTA reports.

The jury headed by People’s Artist of Ukraine Taisia Povaliy awarded the first prize to Lasha Ramishvili from Georgia who was only two points behind the winner. The second prize went to Anait Shakhbazyan of Armenia and Ukrainian’s Inna Voronova. Dinara Sultangalieva from Kazakhstan, Denis Vershenko from Belarus and Macedonia’s Joce Panov shared the third prize.

Lasha Ramishvili was also awarded Vladimir Mulyavin’s prize for the best embodiment of the national theme and emotionalism in the presentation of the author's work. Special prizes of the Union State PA “To the Best Signer of the Republic of Belarus” and “To the Best Singer of the Russian Federation” were conferred on Denis Vershenko and Anna Malysheva. The CIS Interstate Fund of Cooperation presented a certificate for album recording to Dinara Sultangalieva and Anait Shakhbazyan.

This is the first time in the history of the Slavonic Bazaar and Vitebsk Song Contest that a representative of the sovereign Croatia has won the Grand Prix. The winner will take part in the official closing ceremony of the 19th international festival of arts, Slavonic Bazaar in Vitebsk, on 15 July.

Nineteen contestants took part in the 19th International Vitebsk Song Contest this year.
