SCO Summit Opens in Tashkent

On June 10-11, the Uzbek capital of Tashkent hosts the annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). The summit will focus on the strengthening of regional security and the war on terror, Voice of Russia reports. 

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is an intergovernmental mutual-security organization founded in 2001 by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. These countries are the members of the SCO. India, Iran, Mongolia, Pakistan also participate in SCO work under observer status. 

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev will attend the two day summit in Tashkent.  Among the summit's guests are President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai and Turkmenistan's President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov.
