Moldovan Coalition Government Could Revoke Decree on “Soviet Occupation”

29.06.2010

Leaders of the Moldovan ruling coalition are to announce their decision Monday on a decree signed by Moldovan Acting President Mihail Ghimpu to mark June 28 as Day of Soviet Occupation of Moldova, journalists were told after an emergency meeting of the ruling coalition held behind closed doors on Saturday, ITAR-TASS reports.

The leaders of the ruling coalition agreed not to convene a special session of the Moldovan parliament on Monday, as Ghimpu had instructed, that was to ban former Soviet symbols in Moldova. Instead, the ruling coalition decided to deliver an ultimatum to Ghimpu to make him either revoke his scandalous decree or otherwise, the ruling coalition will be dissolved. The leaders of the ruling coalition also discussed a possibility of immediate disbandment of the Moldovan parliament and appointment of early parliamentary election if Ghimpu refuse to comply.
