St. Petersburg Marks Joseph Brodsky’s 70th Anniversary

A number of events are planned in St. Petersburg to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Joseph Brodsky, the Nobel Prize laureate, renowned poet and honorary citizen of Russia’s Northern Capital.

The events include a film program focused on Brodsky’s life and works as well as a book exposition at the Cinema House (Dom Kino) and an “Evening with Brodsky” at the Anna Akhmatova museum.

Joseph Brodsky was born in Leningrad on May 24, 1940. He died on January 28, 1996, in New York. Brodsky established himself as one of the great Russian writers. He won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1987 and was named Poet Laureate of the United States in 1991.

He is buried at San Michele cemetery in Venice, Italy, where commemorative events are also planned.
