London to Host Celebrations of Russian Maslenitsa

The Russian celebration of Maslenitsa (a pre-Lent festival) is due to take place for the second time on 7 February 2010 in Potters Fields (London), RIA Novosti reports. It will be a free event with live music and staged performances organized and managed by Ensemble Productions. According to Olga Balakleets, director of this company, the festival aims at raising awareness of Russian culture and cuisine among Londoners and tourists.

Visitors of Maslenitsa festival will be able to enjoy authentic Russian talent with folk, pop and rock groups arriving to London especially for the occasion. The public will be also entertained by UK based Russian musical groups.

Apart from music the event visitors will be able to taste traditional Russian pancakes (blini) and a broad range of specialist Maslenitsa foods.

The festival is supported by the Russian Embassy in London, London Authorities, Moscow City Government and a Russian London-based cultural center Pushkin House, Rossotrudnichestvo etc.
