Mariinsky Theatre to Host Maslenitsa Festival

February 7 will mark the opening of The 4th Maslenitsa Festival at Mariinsky Theatre. According to the theatre’s official press release, the event will pay tribute to three pillars of the Russian music – Sergei Rachmaninoff, Igor Stravinsky and Fyodor Chaliapin.

The festival’s premieres include Igor Stravinsky’s L’Histoire du soldat and The Fable of the Fox, the Cock, the Tomcat and the Ram (February 7) staged by Eduard Gaidai, Rachmaninoff’s opera The Miserly Knight, staged by Alexander Maskalin; Michel Fokine’s legendary ballet P
