Vladimir Putin aware of Western countries’ interest to war games West-2017

Russian President Administration Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived at the Leningrad region to watch a stage of major mutual Russia-Belarus war games Zapad-2017 (West-2017). He was present at the Luzhsky range, RIA Novosti informs.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has reported to Russian President and Commander-in-Chief that 95 foreign representatives from fifty different countries from all over the world watch the warfare. Vladimir Putin has noted that this fact witnesses interest of other countries to the maneuvers.

More than twelve thousand soldiers, around seventy planes and helicopters as well as a bit less than seven hundreds of fighting equipment units are involved in the games.

The Atlantic Alliance countries, especially the West-European and Baltic states showed much concern about these maneuvers. Lithuania and Ukraine have many times claimed that political takeover is possible in Belorussia as a result of these actions as well as occupation of the neighboring territories. Russia rejected these evidence-free accusations. Besides, NATO representatives and guests from neighboring countries got invitations for watching these maneuvers.

It is worth reminding that strategic Russian-Belarus war games West-2017 started September 14 at the territory of Belarus. Almost thirteen thousand soldiers including more than five thousand army men from Russia take part in the games. The warfare represent finals of mutual training of military forces of the Union State of Russia and Belarus.
