Russian scientists contribute to enhancement of Large Hadron Collider

19.09.2017

CERNScientists from Tomsk Polytechnic University have worked out details for attachment of tracking detector Sci Fi to the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), TASS informs. The details will be delivered to the European Center for Nuclear Research in the nearest future where they are to be installed to LHC.

Head of Applied Physics Department in Tomsk Polytechnic University Alexander Wagner has remarked that LHCb tracking detector is one of the most important detectors of the collider. The precision of measurements will be improved significantly after completion of modernization of its fixed-rail system. The whole suspension system (railings, chassis) will contribute to better movement of the device with LHCb detectors on the plant. The unique feature of the Russian details is that they do not use lubricants and electric engines as well as metals with magnetic properties. Besides, scientists from Tomsk reached high precision of functioning of the whole suspension system, as now it enables to attach detectors with precision of up to one micron.

Scientists from Tomsk Polytechnic University have been just recently involved into LHC’s research activities, but they are already actively participating in experiments and modernization of the collider’s systems.
