Merkel doesn't want to lift Russia sanctions

18.09.2017

ESMT//wikimedia.orgAngela Merkel doesn't think that Anti-Russian sanctions can further be mitigated, RIA Novosti reports. According to her, Russia's proposal on UN peacekeeping mission placement in Donbass sounds interesting but it will not become a reason for easing of sanctions. In order to make that type of decision it is necessary to see a significant progress in establishment of a lasting truce in Donbass, German Chancellor has explained.

Let us remember, Russian President has supported the possibility of UN peacekeeping mission placement not only along the line of contact with Donbass. He's shared his thoughts during the phone conversation with Angela Merkel. The phone conversation took place at the initiative of Berlin.

Russian President has explained that UN peacemakers can protect OBSE members not only at the line of contact but also in other locations they may frequent. United Nations' peacekeepers could make a serious contribution to ending the Ukraine-Russia conflict in Donbass that lasts for more than three years.

German Chancellor has underlined that future action should be built in this direction, but “that's just sprouts that do not give occasion to lift the sanctions.”
