After 30 years Russia and Iraq resume direct air communication

Pixabay.comDirect air communication between Moscow and Baghdad to be established 13 years after, IA Interfax reports. The very first direct flight awaits its passengers in three days, September, 17. Iraqi Airways airplane from Baghdad will land in Moscow' Vnukovo.

The air communication between two countries was suspended in 2004. Russian authorities took this decision due to the war situation in Iraq, and hence the impossibility to maintain safety for Russian passengers and pilots.

Iraq authorities have requested to resume direct air communication now, when the situation in the country has changed.

Russian Embassy in Iraq has confirmed that direct flights will be resumed, and expressed hope that this step will serve as the bedrock for cooperation and build confidence between the two countries.
