Moscow and Tokyo will increase cooperation in security questions

Russian Defense MinistryRussia and Japan have signed a memorandum of understanding, RIA Novosti informs. Secretary of Russia’s Security Council Nikolay Patrushev and his Japanese colleague put their signature on the document. The signing ceremony took place in Tokyo during the visit of Nikolay Patrushev. He met Japanese President Sindzo Abe earlier.

This document contains schedule of security consulting sessions of mutual interest.

Japanese Security Council is a constant participant of such sessions conducted by Russian Security Council including meetings of top officials on the subject of security as well as meetings of countries – members of the Arctic Council.

Both parties have acknowledged the necessity to continue interaction between Moscow and Tokyo on security questions in the course of talks. In their opinion, this topic is of mutual interest in the long-term perspective. It also helps to sustain stability in the region and in the whole world as well.
