RT channel's 'British embassy' account suspended

04.09.2017

Russian Revolution themed RT television network microblog @BritishEmb1917 is blocked by British authorities, RIA Novosti reports. The official reason of complaint was the use of British symbolics without authorization.

@BritishEmb1917 was created as “The official Twitter account of the United Kingdom in the Russian Empire”. It was set up by RT as part of its #1917Live project, devoted to the Russian revolution's 100-years anniversary. Through real-time tweeting from a network of linked accounts, stories of immediate participants are told in the frames of this project devoted to the role played by London in the events of that time.

The complaint was commented by Russian Permanent mission in Great Britain. Russian diplomats raise a question if documents classified as "Secret" kept by Foreign office are related to this issue.

As mass media has stressed all those historical archives UK Foreign Ministry keeps illegally. According to the law the documents have to be declassified and transferred to the National Archive.
