Russian compatriots in Germany will write memoirs on Siege of Leningrad

Elena MartillaSt. Petersburg Vice-Governor Sergei Movchan asked witnesses of the Siege of Leningrad residing in Germany to share their memoirs in the course of his visit to Hamburg, TASS informs. These materials will be put together into the collection of Museum of the Defense and Siege of Leningrad.

The official person has mentioned that genuine testimonies and reminiscences about the war and tragic days of the siege are crucial for Saint Petersburg citizens and future museum workers. Sergey Movchan has said that he managed to get verses and memoirs of two Siege participants living in Cuba during his visit to the Island of Freedom.

Ninety-year old Solomon Zilberberg from Hamburg expressed his readiness to provide memoirs partially devoted to the tragic events of 1941 – 1944 to the future museum.

Museum of the Defense and Siege of Leningrad is to be opened at the beginning of 2019. It will be timed with 75th anniversary of full lifting of the Leningrad Siege.
