03.09.2017

Alvesgaspar//wikimedia.orgThe Consulate General of Russia in San Francisco has stopped its work on September, 2. Diplomatic mission buildings, the trade missions of the Russian Federation in Washington and New York have passed under control of the USA. Diplomats have moved out taking out furniture and documents, RIA Novosti reported.

Special services have searched the Russian consulate and also apartments in San Francisco used by Russian diplomats and their families. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova claimed US actions as inacceptable are breaking the basics of International law. She has underlined that sanctions of Washington leading to the further deterioration of the situation will not be left unanswered.

Congress of Russian Americans deeply regrets the US authorities decision to close the oldest Consulate General of Russia in US. Now inhabitants of San Francisco and surrounding areas will experience difficulties receiving Russian visas and other documents. The president of CRA Natalia Sabelnik has noted that local Consulate General has always supported Russian community initiatives.

Let us remind that The State Department decision was made “in the spirit of parity,” answering the seizure of US diplomatic staff in Russia by 755 people as a result of anti-Russian sanctions. New Russian ambassador to US Anatoly Antonov has underlined that both sides should make an effort "to resolve the situation peacefully."
