Russian ambassador to US talks of bilateral collaboration opportunities

U.S. Mission Geneva/Eric Bridiers//wikimedia.orgRussian-American relations might improve if based on equality of rights and non-interference in the internal affairs, Anatoly Antonov believes. He has been recently appointed Russian Ambassador to Washington, Kommersant paper reports.

In his opinion, it is possible to increase bilateral collaboration between countries in case the parties do not attempt imposing their will on each other.

Ambassador has stressed that Moscow is not going to ask for cancellation of Anti-Russian sanctions. At the same time, everybody understands that such unfriendly behavior does not help building of cooperation.

The diplomat has reminded that as early as this spring Moscow passed to American authorities proposal on improvement of relations where much attention was paid to joint efforts against terror and cyberattacks. Antonov has specified that interests of both countries coincide in this field, which means that positive results could be reached faster.

Ambassador has underlined that Moscow and Washington may coordinate their efforts in fighting against other challenges of today such as distribution of drugs and of weapons of mass destruction. Besides, according to Antonov, Russia and USA can do a lot to stabilize the situation in the conflict zones. Moscow believes it would be helpful to build positive relations between Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Pentagon Chief James Mattis.
