Russian Expeditionary Regiment memorial erected at Mont Spen

sammler.ruAncestors of Russian soldiers fighting for France during World War I met participants of French-Russian search expedition, TASS informs. Historians, scientists and archaeologists are taking part in the expedition. The search works are conducted at three locations, where Russian Expeditionary Regiment used to fight.

As per the Russian Ambassador to France Alexander Orlov, In spring 1917, Russian soldiers conquered inaccessible height of Mont Spen, occupied by German troops for more than three years. Now a memorial will be erected here to eternalize the deed of Russian defenders of the French lands. Russian military historical society have been leading massive works in tandem with French historians over the last few years so that heroic pages of our common history should not be forgotten by future generations.

As per the expedition’s head Pierre Malinowsky, now Russian and French searchers are trying to find remains of soldiers and officers of the Red Army. Malinowsky managed to discover remains of the unknown Russian soldier who died in spring 1917. The remains of the Russian defender of France were buried with honors at the military cemetery of Saint-Hilaire-le-Grand a hundred years later in presence of French government.
