Alexandrinsky theatre to perform Hamlet in Japan

The Japanese will be able to watch a staging Hamlet after Shakespeare’s tragedy by Alexandrinsky Theatre’s Artistic Director Valery Fokin. The staging will be shown as a part of Russian Seasons Festival.

Two performances are planned in one of the world’s leading theatre centers situated in mountain village Toga. The center was initiated by famous Japanese man of art Tadashi Suzuki. A large complex of halls for rehearsals and stages was built in the village. Besides, it contains a cave theatre and amphitheater at the lake bank. Various festivals, forums, seminars and conferences are conducted there.

Alexandrinsky theatre prepared a revised version of Hamlet for staging there. Local performers are taking part in it. Scenography is accustomed to the stage too. Besides, decorations were created specially for this performance. Thus, this road tour of Alexandrinsky theatre will turn into a kind of international cooperation experience.

Scenario version of the plot about Hamlet of the Alexandrinsky Theatre is based on poetic and prose translations of the Shakespeare’s tragedy. The role of King of Denmark is played by Dmitry Lysenkov.
