Saint Petersburg to become Jazz Capital in 2018

pixabay.comSaint Petersburg is to become the World Jazz Capital next year, TASS reports. The Seventh International Jazz Day by UNESCO will be held in Russian Northern Capital.

St Petersburg was chosen out of 18 cities. This remarkable decision says a lot about high level of musical culture in our country. The International jury's decision was confirmed by UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova.

Famous Russian saxophone player Igor Butman will head this remarkable event.

Let us remind, last Jazz Day was celebrated in Havana, Cuba in April this year. Washington, Istanbul, Paris and Osaka were hosting best jazz musicians in previous years

International Jazz Day is celebrated all over the world. April 30 was designated as official International Jazz Day in order to “highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe.”
