Anatoly Antonov appointed Russian Ambassador to US

Anatoly Antonov is appointed a new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the United States, according to the President’s decree, RIA Novosti informs.

He used to work as the head of deputy foreign minister and deputy defense minister of the Russian Federation. Anatoly Antonov was born in the middle of 50ies. He graduated from Moscow State University of Foreign Affairs and got his doctor’s degree in political sciences. The diplomat speaks English and Burmese languages freely.

Antonov replaces Sergey Kislyak in Washington, who was Russian Ambassador abroad for almost ten years. He was considered by mass media sources as “a proxy of Russian will”. Some White House’s top officials had to quit their jobs due to meetings with him.

Reporters used to call him “Russian spymaster” and recruiter. Russian Foreign Ministry was incited of this opinion, criticized even by American diplomats.
