Signature of agreement and foundation of Golden Ring Cities Union are timed with 50th anniversary of the famous touristic route. The union members are to deal with further development of the route. The project initiators have expressed hope that joint efforts of city governors will help to renovate the touristic route more efficiently and create one conception of the Golden Ring. The city administration officials believe that it would eventually lead to increasing tourist flow and income into the city budget.

Four activities are planned in Yaroslavl due to the anniversary. The most prominent one is art festival Transformation and gastronomic festival Feast on the Volga. Its organizers will offer visitors to try their brand dishes cooked usually for tourists travelling around the Golden Ring.

Currently the route contains ten main cities, however Rostourism plans to expand it and include Serpukhov, Kolomna and Zaraisk into the Golden Ring route.
