Russian dancers compete for tango world champions’ title

Flickr/sobrenivelRussian dancers are taking part in World Tango Dance Tournament, TASS reports. Qualifying rounds for participants have started in Buenos Aires the day before. Thirteen pairs from Russia including sportsmen from Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Perm are competing for title of the best tango dancers in the world. Two more Russian female dancers have foreign male partners.

Our pairs have gained right to enter the second completion stage, having won international qualification rounds. Dmitry Kuznetsov and Olga Nikolaeva as well Stanislav Fursov and Ekaterina Simonova became winners of the tournament on Argentine Tango among CIS countries and the Baltic states. The competitions were held in Moscow this spring. Besides, Maksim and Natalya Luchko won the European championships.

The competition is going to be tough in the Argentina this time. More than five hundred pairs representing fifty-one countries are in the participants’ list.

They will compete in two categories – Salon tango and Stage tango. The first category of the dance is classical style with slow hasteless and smooth movements. The second category is famous for the professional techniques and acrobatic figures.
