Bomb exploded next to Orthodox church in Podgorica

The strongest explosion happened next to Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Podgorica in the early hours of August 9, RIA Novosti informs. According to the preliminary data, the explosive substance was put under the office building, situated next to the Cathedral. Fortunately, there are no victims at the result of this accident.

Radio and Television of Montenegro (RTCG) with reference to law enforcement agencies have claimed that several cars parked nearby were damaged as the result of the explosion. Besides, explosive wave knocked down all windows in neighboring living blocks. Police officers and security services of Montenegro are currently working at the accident site. They are trying to find out if it was a terrorist act or just somebody’s malicious intent.

Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Podgorica is the biggest Orthodox Cathedral in Montenegro and is one of the places for pilgrimage of the believers including Russians. The construction of the Cathedral was started in 1993, the first stone in its basement was put by Patriarch Serbsky Pavel and Russian Orthodox Church Patriarch Alexiy II. The bell tower with fourteen large bells was produced at the expense of congregation donations. The bells were founded in Voronezh.
