07.08.2017

Twitter/MargoSavazhAuthorities of Vagli Sotto, the small Italian town in the midst of Toscana hills, unveiled a memorial commemorating Russian 1st Lieutenant Alexander Prokhorenko in Park of Honour and Dishonour, RIA Novosti reports. The militarian has heroically died in Syria on March 2016.

A two-metre marble monument represents a soldier with a raised head in a full uniform. As the monument creators advise this monument portrays an episode before the Palmira airstrikes. Prokhorenko died in March 2016 in Palmyra, Syria, after ordering an airstrike on his own position, when he was surrounded by Islamic fighters.

Russian and Italian authorities, including members of the Russian armed forces and Russian compatriots were present at the inauguration of the statue. The mayor of Vagli Sotto Mario Puglia has praised the Russian hero and the Russian hero, who didn’t want to get surrounded by Islamic terrorists. The mayor has underlined that terrorism is a global threat, and any conscious person should support Vladimir Putin’s policy to struggle against the Islamic State in Syria.
