US may return seized diplomatic property to Russia

14.07.2017

wikipedia.orgWhite House is considering returning two Russian diplomatic compounds confiscated by the Obama administration last year, TASS informs.

According to White House position, the release of two diplomatic compounds is to be connected with the developments of the situation in Syria. This position was spelled out by deputy assistant to President Trump, Sebastian Gorka. He explained that this step is to follow in case if Russian side will keep its promises on Syria. “We want to give collaboration and cooperation a chance,” said Gorka.

High-level official has added that Moscow and Washington may not share the same philosophy, but at the same time there are some issues of common concern. He has stated that 500 thousand lives of Syrian people were taken by the war, and it is absolutely horrifying. He has stated that if Moscow confirms its firm position regarding ceasefire agreement there's a good chance that The U.S. State Department will consider returning Russia's diplomatic compounds.

“It is going to be a certain improvement in relations between our two capitals,” said the deputy assistant.

Let us remember, former US President Barack Obama has ordered seizure of two Russian diplomatic compounds and expelled 35 Russian diplomats in December 2016, just before the New Year Celebrations. At that time Russian President did not take symmetrical actions; moreover, he has invited the children of 35 US diplomats to Kremlin for Christmas.

However, this issue was not resolved during G20 that recently took part in Germany. After that Russian officials went on to say that Russia was preparing a response to the seizure.
