Christians all across the world celebrate The Ascension Day on May 25, RIA Novosti informs. The Day is often called The Holy Thursday. It is Thursday 40 days after Easter observed in commemoration of Christ's ascension into Heaven. Festive services will be held in all the Christian churches today.

On this day, Jesus Christ promised to the disciples that soon the Holy Spirit would be sent to the world. He led them onto the Eleon Mountain, and blessing them ascended to Heaven.

The Head of Russian Orthodox Church Patriarch Kirill will sanctify the cathedral of New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia at Moscow Sretensky Monastery. The Russian President will be a guest of this ceremony.

The Catholic Church considers the Ascension Day as one of the greatest holidays. Catholic priests bless beans and grapes today. Besides, they conduct other specialized rituals and arrange gala processions. Some Catholic churches are conducting the ritual of lifting Jesus’s stature up to ceiling of the church at this day.

In ten days after the Ascension Day Christians will celebrate Pentecost or the Day of the Holy Trinity. This day is believed to be the birthday of Christian church.
