Archives about life of Alexander Solzhenitsyn to be published by his 100th anniversary

Flickr/MarinaIt is planned to publish a collection of archived historical documents related to life and work of Alexander Solzhenitsyn by the 100th anniversary of the writer. This information was revealed during the meeting of the Organizing Committee for Preparation and Celebration of the Jubilee Date, TASS informs. According to Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation Sergei Prikhodko there are more than seven hundred documents stored in the archives. A new edition will comprise sources unknown to the wide public before.

Prikhodko reminded that this year people celebrate 100th anniversary of the Russian Revolution and, consequently, of those events described in Solzhenitsyn’s book The Red Wheel. When we talk about history, especially about such a difficult and disputable period, the significance of these documents is hard to overestimate.

Vice-Premier has underlined that the main task is to make these documents available to readers and historians writing their works.

Besides, it was proposed to include the anniversary date of Solzhenitsyn marked at the beginning of the next year into the list of UNESCO memorable dates. The corresponding proposition has been already sent to the related international organization. The answer will be ready this autumn.

Organizing Committee members discussed activities’ plan including All-Russian Open Creative Contest for the best architectural and sculptural solution of Solzhenitsyn monument, construction works’ completion of the House of Russian Expat Community new office and putting it to operation, preparation of documentary movie Solzhenitsyn. Century and conduction of the festival on audiovisual projects in Kislovodsk and many other activities.
