Russian diplomats condemn desecration of Fascism victims’ monument in Latvia

Facebook Russian diplomatic mission to Latvia firmly believes that the government will find the guilty in desecration of Fascism victims’ monument. Moreover, the Russian Embassy expresses hope that the monument will be brought to the proper condition in the nearest time, according to TASS. The Russian diplomats sent a note of protest containing their indignation regarding the attack and criticism of the act of vandalism to Foreign Ministry of Latvia.

Unknown criminals poured white paint over the monument founded at the mass grave of Nazi victims in the Dreylinsky forest. It is located at the outskirts of the Latvian capital. The remains of about thirteen thousand people found their rest in that grave.

The diplomats underlined that the criminals defied universal human values by desecrating the memory of the killed by the Fascists.

It is worth reminding that, a traditional march of the Latvian nationalists and soldiers from the Latvian SS Volunteer Legion was organized in Riga on March 16. During the march, local anti-fascist activists chanting “Fascists!” were arrested, mainly Russian-speaking population. At the same day, anti-fascists arranged their own campaign. They lit candles near the Monument of Freedom and placed pictures of people killed by the Nazis during the World War II.
