The biggest Franz Josef polar station to become a museum

Tourists will soon be able to visit the the biggest polar station located on the Franz Josef Flickr/P J Hansen, TASS informs. According to Acting National Park Director Alexander Kirillov the guests will be invited after the Hayes island goes through "Arctic clean-up". During Soviet times about 200 people worked on the station. It was closed at the beginning if 21st century for several years, and then started working again. At this time, only 4 people live there. Arctic cleaning goes on for three years now.

As per now, tourists can see just few islands of the archipelago that contains 192 islands in total. Tour organizers need to apply well before planning to visit the destination. Although, in just few years the situation will change.

One of the most miraculous destinations will be opened in 2020. Probably the largest open-air Living History of the Arctic museum will present an architectural ensemble of the first Soviet polar station, unique remnants of automotive, all-terrain and aviation machinery, installations, and wildlife exhibits. The museum complex will function as a part of The Russian Arctic National Park.
