Russian national women’s curling team won silver at the World Curling Championship in the Chinese capital, according to RIA Novosti.

Our curling players Margarita Fomina, Alexandra Raeva, Alina Kovalyeva, Kira Ezekh and their team leader Anna Sidorova lost to the Canadian team by a score of 3:8 in the finals. Before that, female national team showed a very inspired game and flattened the Sweden team by a score of 9:3. Our ladies lead a qualitative game; however, the Canadians took leadership at the beginning of the finals and were victorious at the end. It was the fourth defeat from the Canadian team, who was an overwhelming favorite of this competition.

However, the silver medal is a definite success, as our curling players could not win more than bronze at the World Championships previously. The Russian national team took the third place for the last three times.

The women’s team fulfilled its minimum to be selected for 2018 Winter Olympics. Apart from silver medals, Russian players gained a pass to Pyeongсhang, where they will play against the Canadian team again for the Golden Medal.
