A Literary salon session dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the first release of Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky was hosted by the Russian Center under Horlivka Institute for Foreign Languages on 30 November.

Professors at the department of world literature and comparative literature I.E. Shishkina and L.N. Lubimtseva told students how the novel had been written as well as about the prototypes for its main characters and its geography. They also showed students illustrations to the novel made by such artists as V. Zabelin, V. Afonichev, A. Ivanov, F. Konstaninov, I. Glazunov, M. Shemyakin, E. Neizvestny and others. Those present at the event watched fragments from screen versions of the novel made in different years as well as learned about the rock-opera based on the novel composed by E. Artemyev.

At the end of the event, its participants were offered to take part in a trivia game dealing with the best knowledge of the novel text. The winner received a copy of Crime and Punishment as a prize.
