Patriarch Kirill, who is on a visit to France, consecrated a new Orthodox cathedral built in downtown Paris yesterday. The Cathedral constructed in honor of Holy Trinity is located not far from Eiffel Tower, reports TASS.

According to primate, the cathedral as well as the Pont Alexandre III has already become a symbol of strong friendship between Russian and French people who respect each other’s cultures and traditions.

Patriarch Kirill expressed his gratitude to President of the RF Vladimir Putin and the former and current presidents of France Nicolas Sarkozy and François Hollande consistently for their support to the implementation of the project.

The leader of the Russian Orthodox Church handed over a copy of one of the most revered icons, which is the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God, to the cathedral. All those present at the ceremony were given small icons of Holy Trinity.

As it was reported by Russkiy Mir website, the new cathedral is part of the Russian Orthodox Spiritual and Culture Center that was opened on Branly Embankment in October. The construction of the center took two years.

It is to be recalled that Patriarch Kirill will visit Sainte-Genevieve-des-Bois Cemetery where a big number of people of Russian descent, including White Russians and people belonging to later waves of immigration, are buried. He is to hold an office for the dead there.
