Plovdiv students learn about Imperial Lyceum in Tsarskoye Selo

21.10.2016

On 18 October 2016, the library of the University of Plovdiv Paisii Hilendarski hosted a meeting of a Russian classics professor Tanya Atanasova with senior students of the faculty of the Russian philology at which she told them about the Imperial Lyceum in Tsarskoye Selo.

The students “were present” at the opening ceremony of the lyceum, learned about its daily routine, the subjects the students were taught, and about its outstanding graduates such as Wilhelm Kukhelbecker, Ivan Pushchin and Vladolkhovsky who later became Decemberists and listened to some poems written by them and dealing with the friendship of the lyceum students about which A.S. Pushkin wrote:

My friends, our union is beautiful!
It is as the soul, it is indivisible and eternal
Unshakable, free and carefree

Finishing her story about the educational institution, Tanya Atanasova expressed her hope that the students present at the meeting will be brilliant at Russian literature and will provide their students with knowledge of Russian literature and will manage to make them feel its spirit.
