She explained that negative practices have developed in Ukraine lately. If a small number of people become victims of some particular situation it is considered to be violation of human rights, but if millions of people suffer then it’s called politics. Mrs. Matviyenko spoke about Ukraine’s attempt to restrict Russian citizens living in Ukraine from taking part in the elections for the State Duma at the European Conference of Chairmen of State, reports RIA Novosti. Speakers of Parliaments of more than 50 countries took part in the conference

Head of upper house of the Russian parliament also reminded that the rights of Crimeans are being violated. According to her, Europe is trying to punish them for their self-determination. The residents cannot move around freely, they do not have access to goods, cannot use banks and do not have access to communications services. At the same time criminal elements are trying to restrict residents’ access to electricity and water.

Valentina Matviyenko stressed that the Ukrainian government had deprived Russian citizens of their rights to take part in the elections for the State Duma. Among other problems are creation of various blacklists, shutdown of a broadcast media, pogroms and occupation of cathedrals.

The Senator added that the West prefered not to notice all those problems which is very dangerous.
