Monument to Yuri Gagarin appears in Bergen

Photo: Andrey Nekrasov/GloballookpressThe unveiling of the monument to Yuri Gagarin has taken place in Bergen, Norway, reports TASS.

The bust was set up on a square near the Bergen University. The monument is a gift to the city residents from a charity fund “Dialogue of Cultures – One World” . The idea of eternalizing Gagarin's memory in a Norway city has been initiated by head of “Regional Coordinating Council of compatriots of the Nothern Europe and the Baltic Sea region”.

Representatives of the Russian Embassy in Norway, President of the University, Russian compatriots and city residents attended the ceremony. Among the audience was a Norwegian who met Gagarin in 1964. He was given the opportunity to tell about that pleasant meeting. Moreover, he got a miniature copy of the monument as a gift.

Yuri Gagarin spent 8 days in Norway. He visited Oslo and Trondheim. Visiting Geophysical Institute and the University of Bergen was part of the program.

The administration of the university has agreed to set up the bust of the first human to journey into outer space near the University. They also devoted funds to its setup and paid for a postament to it.

The possibility of carrying out of Gagarin readings is currently being discussed.
