No Russian citizen affected by earthquake in Italy

Photo: © RIA «Novosti»/Alexey Kudenko There are no Russian tourist groups in the area which was hit by a 6.2-magnitude earthquake in Italy, reports TASS. According to the Federal Agency for Tourism of the Russian Federation, only some Russian people spend their vacations in the country at the moment.

The high-mountain region that was struck by a strong earthquake last night is not a popular tourist destination among Russian tourists. At the same time, representatives of the Rostourism underlined that they stay in touch with the Embassy of the RF in Italy and follow the situation.

As the Embassy of the RF in Italy puts it, they have not received any information on Russian citizens who might have been affected by the earthquake but they have already sent their request to the regional authorities and expect their answer.

The first 6.0-magnitude temblor was fixed at 03:36 am local time. It was followed by another temblor. The earthquake hit a big area of the Apennines. Much of the town of Amatrice was reduced to rubble and a family of four were feared dead nearby in Accumoli. Many of the dead were in the village of Pescara del Tronto which was levelled to the ground and there were fears the number could rise. According to the latest data, the earthquake left at least 20 people dead.
