Vladimir Putin congratulates Mireille Mathieu on her jubilee

The Russian President said that the famous singer is loved “both by Russian and French audiences as well as by people living in other countries”. The message says that Mireille Mathieu is an extremely gifted performer and a kind and charming person open for communication.

Mireille Mathieu was born on 22 July 1946 in Avignon, France. She was interested in singing since her childhood. A famous French singer ?dith Piaf influenced Mireille Mathieu singing a lot. Mathieu began her career by participating in an annual singing contest in Avignon called On Chante dans mon Quartier (We sing in my Neighborhood). She took the second place in the contest and a year later won it. After that she was invited to take part in a TV show named Tele-Dimanche and that was he way her brilliant career as a singer started.

The French singer has come to Russia on tour several times. Her first visit to our country was in 1967. In 2005, she took part in a gala-concert dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Great Victory held in Red Square (Moscow). In 2008, the singer was a guest at the Assembly of the Russian World annually held by the Russkiy Mir Foundation.

Since 2009, Mireille Mathieu has been taking part in a musical festival named Spasskaya Tower held in Red Square every year singing her famous songs including such songs sung in Russian as Black Eyes and Moscow Nights. The singer performed the official national anthem of Russia there too.

In 2010, Mireille Mathieu was awarded the Order of Friendship and in the same year she celebrated the 45th anniversary of her professional activity at the National Kremlin Palace.
