Moscow condemns seizure of police building in Yerevan

Photo: © Artem Korotaev/TASS The representative of the MFA of the RF Maria Zakharova has claimed that Moscow roundly condemned the seizure of a police building in Yerevan, reports RIA «Novosti».

Several days ago, an armed group stormed a police station in Armenia's capital Yerevan, which caused the death of one officer. Another six officers were injured.

Some hostages including police highest-ranked executives are still being held by the armed people. They demand the release of Zhirayr Sefilian, the jailed opposition leader of Founding Parliament movement. The officials are holding negotiations with the members of the armed group.

According to Maria Zakharova, such criminal actions are totally unsustainable as they carry a threat to lives and safety of civilians.

Mrs. Zakharova also said that Moscow applauds the steps taken by the Armenian authorities. She expressed hope that they would let manage the situation, free the hostages, carry out the investigation and punish the guilty ones.
