According to the Moscow Department of Cultural Heritage, the restoration work is to start in ten days. In early July, riggers will be installed in the area around the monument made by sculptor Opekushin but the monument will partly remain available for Muscovite and visitors to the capital as a special open is supposed to be made so that those interested in the restoration process could watch it.

According to the Moscow authorities, the bronze monument is of non-uniform green and blue color now due to a thick tinge and the patina is to be partly removed off the statue, which might cause the change of the monument color.

The granite parts of the monument are to be cleared of dust and dirt and copies of original chains found around the monument are to be made as their parts have been stolen several times and the copies of the lost fragments were made at different times.

There will not be a flowerbed across the site but the ground will be covered with granite boards instead. The decision was made due to the fact that during the flowerbed watering water reaches the monument base ruining it.
