Battalion Premieres in Varna

In the packed viewing hall of the Varna Festival and Congress Center the new Russian release Battalion made is Bulgarian premiere. Ahead of the screening guests had the opportunity to meet with the popular Russian actors Alexander Goloborodko, Alexander Pyatkov and actress Galina Bogushevskaya.

The residents of Varna warmly welcomed the songs from the war years performed by the wonderful thespians. Everyone was particular enthralled by the wonderful performance of “Sprung of ‘45”, “The Final Battle” and “My Bulgaria” by Alexander Pyatkov.

The film “Battalion” was presented by the scriptwriter Ilya Artemenko. The picture tells the story of the first women’s “battalion of death” commanded by the legendary Maria Bochkareva and formed in Petrograd during World War I. The fate of these women, who demonstrated courage and honor while keeping their dreams and hopes alive, captured the imagination of the audience. The film received a standing ovation upon its conclusion.

The screening of the film came as part of the “Echo of Yuri Ozerov War Films Festival” supported by the Russkiy Mir Foundation. Through this project new documentary, historical and feature films which resonated with Russian viewers will be screened April 14-16 at three locations in Bulgaria – Kamchia, Varna and Dobrich. In addition to “Battalion” the program includes “White Tiger”, “Brest Fortress” and “Burnt by the Sun – 2”, among others. The festival will conclude in Prague on May 9.
