Vyacheslav Nikonov

Chairman of the Committee on Education of the State Duma, Dean of the Moscow State University School of Public Administration, President of the Polity Foundation, President of the Unity for Russia Foundation, Editor-in-Chief of Russia's Strategy, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Committee on BRICS Research.
Vyacheslav Nikonov holds a doctoral degree in history and is a respected Russian political analyst.

Born June 5, 1956 in Moscow, Nikonov is the grandson of Vyacheslav Molotov, the renowned Soviet politician and diplomat. In 1973, Vyacheslav Nikonov began his studies at the Faculty of History of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, specializing in modern and contemporary history. Following the graduation, he began working for the Department of Modern and Contemporary History at Lomonosov Moscow State University. In 1989, he became the youngest Doctor of History in the USSR.

V.A. Nikonov has an extensive experience in research and scientific-organizational activities. He worked as an instructor in the field of historical sciences and a head of the sector of the CPSU Central Committee. He was the Chair of Interfaculty department of History and Political Science of the International University in Moscow. Currently, he is the Dean of the Faculty of Public Administration of the Lomonosov MSU, Head of the Department of International Organizations and Problems of Global Governance at the Faculty, and is a member of the Academic Council of MSU.

Nikonov served at the committee on international affairs of the Russian State Duma from 1st to 6th convocation. He was the first Deputy Chairman of the committee. Since April 2013, he served as a Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Education.

From 2016, Nikonov worked as the Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Education and Science of the 7th convocation. Since October 2021, he serves as the First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs of the 8th convocation.

He is a member of the board of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

Member of the United Russia Party since its foundation and member of the General Council of the United Russia Party.

Nikonov heads two analytical centers, the Polity Foundation and the Unity for Russia Foundation.

He was a member of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation of the 1st and 2nd convocations; headed the Commission on International Cooperation and Public Diplomacy.

In accordance with the 2007 Decree of the President of the Russian Federation, Vyacheslav Nikonov created the Russkiy Mir Foundation, heading it first as Executive Director and then as Chairman of the Board. The Foundation has opened more than 100 Russian centers around the world, popularizing the Russian language and Russian culture around the world. The Foundation's grant and partnership programs are implemented in more than 120 countries.

Nikonov is an author of over 1100 works and articles. He has written number of books, including: “From Eisenhower to Nixon. History of the Republican Party in the USA,” Republicans: from Nixon to Reagan, Iran-Contras Affair, Russian-American Relations: How to Achieve More, Wind of Change: Russia in the 90s, Molotov: The Youth, Collapse of Russia. 1917, and The Russian Matrix.
Several monographs by Vyacheslav Nikonov were translated and published in 2018-2020s. In particular, Comprendre la Russie in French language, المفهوم الروسى للقيادة"" (Russian Leadership Concept) in Arabian language, The Code of Civilization in English, and yet again in French MOLOTOV. Vyacheslav Nikonov also serves as an Editor-in-Chief of the Moscow University Bulletin. Series XXI. Management (State and Society) and Public Administration. Electronic Bulletin, included in the list of the Higher Attestation Commission. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Russia in Global Affairs magazine.

He is a speaker at a large number of conferences in Russia and abroad. He is a member of the Presidium of the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy and the Valdai Club, a permanent participant in the Russian-German and Russian-South Korean Petersburg dialogue held under the auspices of the President of the Russian Federation. Nikonov acts as a co-organizer of the expert dialogue on the bilateral relations development with China, India, Japan, and the European Union.

In 2012, Vyacheslav Nikonov becomes both Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Russkiy Mir Foundation and the National Committee on BRICS Research.

A prominent international scientist, V.A. Nikonov is a member of the Scientific Council of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. He was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Edinburgh, Varna Free University, Shevchenko Transnistria State University, China Center for Contemporary World Studies. He is a member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (London).

V.A. Nikonov is highly regarded as a teacher. He taught at the Lomonosov MSU, The Maxim Gorky Literature Institute, California Institute of Technology (USA).

He is awarded with the P.A Stolypin medal (2020), the Order of Honor (2018), the medal for the Order of Merit to the Fatherland (second degree, 2013), The Order of Holy Prince Daniel of Moscow (third degree, 2012 and second degree, 2016). He has repeatedly received gratitudes of the President of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Federation Council, Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.

Vyacheslav Nikonov is married and has four sons. The eldest son Alexei received a BA in the United States and a MA from the International University in Moscow (2001). He currently works in Moscow at the Polity Foundation. Grandchildren: Nikolay (2018), Vyacheslav (2020).
